The Covid-19 Rapid Antigen test is designed to determine if someone has a current Covid-19 infection.
Testing should be carried out between the 1st and 5th day after symptoms onset or your informed of potential contact to provide the highest degree of accuracy.
After the 8th day of symptoms an antibody test would be recommended.
The test is carried out by a Healthcare Professional and can be carried out as either a nasal swab OR throat swab.
The results can be as follows:
Negative
Test did not detect COVID-19
Positive Ag
Test detected COVID-19
Accuracy Results
97.3% accuracy (NHS Test - 70% Accuracy)
Tests can be used for:
People with no symptoms - who are therefore not eligible for an NHS test
Students - Prior to returning to family homes from University
Christmas Visiting - Prior to visiting vulnerable relatives
Schools - Teachers & Children so they can return to school after a period of illness
Travel – Some countries accept the test for travel. (You would need to check the specific requirements for your destination for the time of travel)
Workplaces – Earlier return to work for employees with results in 15 minutes
